
James Ellerbe has been an educator for 17 years and is currently working on his doctorate at North Carolina State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education with a major in math and minor in English and a master’s degree in school administration from Fayetteville State University. He has successfully worked in both high poverty and affluent school districts and has earned a reputation as a “Turn-Around Schools” leader.
Presently, James is a Transformation Coach with the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) for North Carolina Schools. Under his principal leadership, Spring Lake Middle School in Cumberland County transformed from a low achieving school into one which met “AYP” and “high growth” standards. His school also served as a model for North Carolina Turnaround Schools Program. Being a zealous and dynamic speaker, James is effective at galvanizing a positive emotional climate and an academically sound environment for the best student achievement outcomes.
